Abstract:

A B S T R A C T Green city is one of the approaches to sustainable development. “green city” is an environmentally friendly city compatible with the concept of sustainable development and can be used for the welfare and security of its inhabitants. Based on the concept of a “green city,” urban managers try to have the least destructive effect on the ecosystems upon which cities rely. Green city is one of the sustainable development approaches that reduce the environmental footprint of cities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the situation of Mashhad metropolis in terms of the objective characteristics of the green city. In this study, 14 indicators of electricity consumption per capita, green space per capita, population density, water availability, sewage availability, superior public transportation network, urban mass transportation, traffic reduction, annual production waste per capita, carbon monoxide, concentration nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide concentration, particulate matter concentration, and air quality were exerted. To determine the importance of research indicators, the Shannon entropy method, and the status of Mashhad city areas in terms of green city indicators, the VIKOR multi-criteria decision-making method has been applied. The results showed that most areas of Mashhad are average and below average in terms of green city characteristics, and only District 9 is in very good condition (0.636). Also, based on the results of this part of the research, District 5, with the value of VIKOR index of 0.969, is in the last rank in terms of objective characteristics of the green city Extended Abstract Introduction Green city is one of the approaches to sustainable development. A “Green city” is an environmentally friendly city compatible with the concept of sustainable development and can be used for the welfare and security of its inhabitants. Based on the concept of a “green city,” urban managers try to have the least destructive effect on the ecosystems upon which cities rely. Green cities constantly try to manage their environmental effects by reducing waste, increasing recycling, reducing air pollution, increasing population density, developing open urban spaces, and encouraging the development of sustainable local businesses. Green cities were first used to evaluate 30 European cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in 2009 with the financial support of Siemens and the aim of reducing the environmental effects of human activities in cities. In that study, eight indices of carbon dioxide, energy, construction, transportation, water, recycling and land use, air quality, and environmental governance were used. Later, the Economist Intelligence Unit, with the financial support of Siemens, evaluated the status of the green city index in 17 Latin American cities, 15 African cities, 22 major Asian cities, and 27 cities in United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In recent years, even some Western Islamic scholars have, in various publications, shown that Islam is an ecological religion. In Iran, the issue of protecting the environment has not received much attention regardless of its rich cultural and religious background and its confirmation in Article 50 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mashhad is the second metropolis of Iran, located in North-East of Iran, and is one of the counties of Khorasan Razavi Province. According to the 2016 Iranian Population and Housing Census, its population was 3057679 people (The Vice-Presidency of Planning and Development of Mashhad Municipality). In Mashhad, due to several reasons including the presence of Imam Reza Shrine (PBUH) and arrival of millions of pilgrims per year, population growth, increased garbage production (production of 896534 tons of garbage in 2016 (The Vice-Presidency of Planning and Development of Mashhad Municipality), air pollution (increased number of unhealthy days from 46 days per year in 2015 to 88 days in 2016 for sensitive groups and 4 days of unhealthy air for all groups in 2016 (Center for Monitoring Environmental Pollutants of Mashhad Municipality) the 2025 vision of the city has paid attention to the environment in the form of five general objectives; however, just like the national level, no specific pattern for environmentally-compatible urban development, such as green city, is determined. Analysis of the green city index in Mashhad metropolis can considerably contribute to urban managers and planners in addition to providing a pattern for evaluating the present situation in other cities of Iran and improving the quality of life regardless of the current status of the urban environment in Iranian cities; we can preserve these environments as parts of the natural environment for future generations.   Methodology In terms of its goal, the present study is an applied one; in the study, drawing upon other studies and library sources and considering the conditions of Iran and the metropolis of Mashhad in terms of green city, 14 quantitative indices were exerted. To this end, the required data for the quantitative indices was gathered by library research from the relevant institutions. Next, the weights of quantitative indices were determined using Shannon's entropy. Then, using the VIKOR method of multi-criteria decision-making, the status of various districts of the metropolis of Mashhad in terms of quantitative indices of green city was determined. Finally, the map of the spatial distribution of quantitative indices was drawn using the ARC GIS software package.   Results and discussion In this study, to analyze the status of the metropolis of Mashhad in terms of green city features, 14 quantitative indices were used. Considering the value of the VIKOR index ranges from 0 to 1, various districts of Mashhad can be classified into five categories; very satisfactory, satisfactory, average, unsatisfactory, and very unsatisfactory in terms of quantitative indices of green city. The results of the current situation of Mashhad showed that in terms of objective indicators of the green city, District 9 of Mashhad metropolis with a value of VIKOR index of 0.056 is in first place, and the seventh region with a value of VIKOR index of 0.433 is in second place. Also, based on the results of this part of the research, District 5, with the value of VIKOR index of 0.969, is in the last rank in terms of objective characteristics of the green city.   Conclusion Similarly, the results of studies by Afshar (2011) and Shabani et al. (2017) on Tehran metropolis are indicative of the unsatisfactory situation of Tehran (the biggest metropolis of Iran) in terms of green city features. Comparing the results of the studies by Afshar (2011) and Shabani et al. (2017) with the present study on Mashhad (the second biggest metropolis of Iran) reveals the necessity for a comprehensive plan toward achieving green cities. It should be mentioned that, due to the specific conditions of Mashhad metropolis and availability or unavailability of the required data, the indices used in the present study are somewhat different from the ones used by Afshar (2011) and Shabani et al. (2017).   Funding There is no funding support.   Authors’ Contribution All of the authors approved the content of the manuscript and agreed on all aspects of the work.     Conflict of Interest Authors declared no conflict of interest.   Acknowledgments We are grateful to all the scientific

Abstract:

The two terms "objective" and "subjective" nowadays mean, respectively, "external" and "mental". But these terms in their primary usage in Middle Ages (from Dunes Scotos) have had exactly the opposite of today"s meaning: "objective" has meant "mental;""" and "subjective" has meant "external". These old (and nowadays completely strange) meanings have been current in philosophical literature, especially in Descartes and his contemporaries, e. g. Spinoza and Berkley. This paper tends to argument that the word "objective" must be taken as meaning "mental" in Descartes" philosophy (and other philosophers" up to 19th century), and not to confused with its modern meaning (i. e. "external").

Abstract:

current research is to critically analyze the discourse of world peace in the textbooks of the Iranian educational system based on the theory of identification by L& M. For this purpose, the textbooks between the years 1357-1392 (primary period and first period high school) have been analyzed. This article has been done with the combined method of analyzing the discourse of Fairclough, L &M and focusing on the following questions: What was the status of the world peace discourse in the educational documents of this era? What subjects are these educational materials trying to create? What role have the dominant political discourses in this era played in shaping the identity of these subjects? The findings show that the discourse of world peace in educational books and documents has been rejected due to the demarcation between Islamic and non-Islamic, internal and external. Power processes have tried to create militant and vengeful subjects with a military identity. The factor of persuasion of the subjects is the axiomatization of the ideologies of the revolution with an Islamic nature. Also, the educational content by inducing specific defense ideologies has formed pacifist identities in all individual, interpersonal, social and international dimensions.

Abstract:

Foucault introduces a new way of analysis of the social world while he does not make clear how to conduct research. However, it does not mean that Foucault did not leave any space to do a Foucauldian social research (or as he wishes, doing genealogies). Indeed, the manner of Foucauldian social research is an ongoing method (s) which is produced both by Foucault and a researcher. The researcher must read Foucault and then draw out some basic points on which she or he can establish a concrete research method. While he mainly focuses on the internal side of discourse and is uninterested in non-discursive elements in archaeology, he then shifts to an overall view in his genealogical works in which discursive and non-discursive elements lose their significant differences, and they are mingled in each other in a discourse. In this article I will map Foucault’s main theoretical and methodological points and articulate them in my own method of doing a research. In so doing, I touch on general aspects of discourse and discourse analysis, then I will describe Foucault’s method, next I will illuminate how practically to do a discourse analysis.

Abstract:

About two years after the Iraq-Iran war, and at a time when Iraqi-Iranian relations were neither war nor peace, Saddam Hussein as Iraq's top political leader, wrote letters to high-ranking Iranian officials. In the correspondences, he sought to portray himself as a pacifist seeking a peaceful solution to the Iraq-Iran crisis. Iranian officials replied obsessively to all the letters. The role of these letters was very important because they were written after the war that incurred heavy human and material losses between the two countries. At that time, officials of both countries were very careful and cautious in what to say and how to say it. Probably, it could be said that the war between the two countries had gone from a physical battle to an attempt at verbal persuasion. Therefore, it is important and necessary to examine and analyze these messages through critical discourse analysis. After reviewing the correspondences, it became clear that there was a dialectical connection between their ideology, power, and texts. The more socially and politically powerful the actor is, the more opportunity he has for linguistics, and in turn, has an effect on his display of power. Officials of both countries – even perhaps unknowingly - used the discourse components to strengthen and direct their discourse; components such as: polarization, reference, lexical options, participant characteristics, implicit signification, distance, and fallacy.

Abstract:

The present research sought to investigate the role and position of purification in educational discourses, namely, happiness, health and austerity discourse in comparison to Quranic discourse. The research method is qualitative focusing on inferential-analytic and comparative-analytic methodology. The population of the study consisted of the books, documents, and educational databases related to purification and discourse making. The sources which covered research parameters were purposefully selected and deeply studied. The findings revealed that in all three discourses, purification enjoys the highest position. In the happiness discourse the education process is twofold: a section on purification and a section on instruction. The position and role of purification equals that of instruction. In health discourse, purification is the whole process of education and enjoys an irreplaceable and invaluable position. In austerity discourse, instruction does not enjoy any position in the process of education since this perspective believes that purification is knowledge-inducer and does not need instruction. In this view the process of education is twofold: a section on purification and a section on tahlieh (decorate oneself with moral virtues); purification is both a precondition for actualization of tahlieh and aim of education. In Quranic discourse, the process of education is twofold: instruction and purification. Such discourse disagrees with discourse of austerity and that of health while close to that of happiness. Ultimately, in formal education, purification should equal instruction in terms of position and the necessary compatible plans should be provided.

Abstract:

In this study, a robust H_2/H_∞ multi-objective state-feedback controller and tracking design are presented for a mobile two-wheeled inverted pendulum (MTWIP). The proposed control has to track the desired angular velocity while keeping the mobile two-wheeled inverted pendulum balanced. First, error of output states are added to the dynamic of system for better tracking control. And uncertainties of parameters are defined by affine parameters. Next, Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is used for estimating the uncertainty of nonlinear model parameters. Robust H_2/H_∞ controller is designed and analyzed for each local linear subsystem of mobile two-wheeled inverted pendulum by using a linear matrix inequalities method. To sum up, in order to calculate the whole dynamic of system from each local linear subsystem, weight average defuzzifer method is used and the total controller is designed and analyzed according to parallel distribute compensation. The simulation indicate that the proposed scheme has high accuracy, robustness, good tracking, fast transient responses and lower control effort for a mobile two-wheeled inverted pendulum despite the uncertainties and external disturbance.

Abstract:

The discourse of Nasserian nationalism in the fifties and sixties, the manifestation of the utopia and the place of realization of the suppressed Arabic human desires during the years of the rule of transnational and proxy systems were thought and in the face of other competing discourses such as liberalism and Islamic fundamentalism, it became the dominant discourse of the region; But over time, the duality in the slogan and action of this discourse became known to everyone. Moreover, as an imposed and hegemonic discourse, the emerging dictatorship of Arabic nationalism was forced. This article, using library data and critical discourse analysis method, first identifies the semantic system and components of Nasserian nationalism discourse based on the definitions of the two concepts of discourse and hegemony, and then aimed at integrating attitudes and behaviors of this discourse Nasserian nationalism is measured in textual and intertextual analysis. Data indicate that Nasserian nationalism focused most of its attention on the magnification and myth of Abdel Nasser and the hegemony of his intended political movement within the country, the region, and even the world. In other words, the point of Nasserian nationalism discourse, the integrated Arabic identity in Charisma, and the power of Abdel Nasser were summarized. Furthermore, taking advantage of the period of the absence of the Arab society from colonialism and corruption of the monarchy and relying on signs such as the Arab unity, the Arab nation, and other ideological and epic signals was an opportunity to legitimize its political status and authority over other regional discourses. Abdel Nasser used any tool for enemy and non-hostility and increased political and ideological conflicts in order to attract different strata of people to his discourse. Explaining the factors of formation, authority, and ultimately suppressing the discourse of Nasserian nationalism in the geopolitical environment of that time is the most important issue.
